The Preakness, the second jewel in the Triple Crown horse racing series, will be run later today, May 21, 2016. And I’m predicting that Nyquist, who won the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, will win the Preakness and then it’s on to the last race, the Belmont, the last jewel in the Triple Crown.
Post time for the Preakness will be approximately 6:45 pm. EST, and the race is held at the Pimlico Track in Baltimore, Maryland. The Preakness is 1/16 mile shorter than the Kentucky Derby, so the Preakness will be 1-3/16 miles in length.
Just like red roses are the official flower for the Kentucky Derby, hence that race’s nickname, The Run For the Roses, the black-eyed susan is the official flower for the Preakness.
The rain has stopped at the Pimlico racetrack and the Preakness was recently upgraded from a muddy track to a good condition. Nyquist still remains the bettors’ favorite though.
If Nyquist does win the Preakness today, he will most likely be then prepped for the last jewel in the Triple Crown racing series, the Belmont, to be held in 3 weeks on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Belmont race track in New York. That race is a grueling 1-1/2 miles, the longest race ever run before by these 3 year old horses.
So good luck, Nyquist! I hope you can prove my long-held faith in you that you can become a back-to-back winner of horse racing’s most prestigious accomplishments by winning the Triple Crown, just like your cousin, American Pharoah did last year.
